USA CURRENCY DOLLAR

American money is based on the decimal system. The basic currency unit is the dollar, US DOLLAR (USD).


1 Dollar equals 100 cents. All the bills, $ 1, $ 2, $ 5, $ 10, $ 20, $ 50, $ 100, etc., are the same size and of the same colour. The coins 1 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents; 25 cents and 50 cents have different sizes. They are known respectively as penny, nickel, dime, quarter and half-dollar.



You can exchange your countrys currency for USD at most major airports, banks and private exchange companies. Hotels, as a rule, do not provide a currency exchange service.

USD Travellers Cheques (TCs) are the safest when you need to travel with large amounts of money and they are accepted at most locations. TCs are treated as CASH and you can use them even for buying groceries, etc. You will need some ID (Passport) for using TCs.

Credit Cards are widely accepted by hotels, shops restaurants and car rental companies and if you have your Credit Cards PIN number, you can get cash from ATMs. Most banks are open Monday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. & on Saturday up to 12 noon.
